A Sophomoric Snicker

I can't believe I've been walking by this place for over a year and just noticed it the other day.

According to Seslisözlük, Şit (Seth) may have taken second place over Peker in the Worst Ever Turkish Names in English Contest.

Kunt still wins, though.

This has made me laugh hysterically ...I remember a lunch with my friends where we laughed till we could laugh no more about Reşit, Raşit, and then the creme de la creme,Murşit!!!! We may have had a bottle or two...

How about Ufuk Uras? :)

Hee! Murşit...

Ufuk is pretty bad-- definitely in the top 5 Worst Ever Turkish Names in English. Also Anıl.

And Tuna isn't obscene but I have a hard time controlling my giggles...

It look me 20 odd years to notice why Arcelik was called Beko in England.

My ex just told me he has a friend called Semih Dik.

There used to be a speaker on Turkish TV called Kunter Kunt. Against all the odds he went on to work for CNN

I just stumbled upon your blog through some random google search (long story - looking up the nutritional value of sour plums). Many articles are interesting to read. I didn't read too many so I don't know your story but I was an expat in the US doing my PhD - so I have some expat stories. But this article made me chuckle and reminded me of a friend who was a student in the US as well. His name is Dikmen.

It was hilarious to see Americans who heard his name for the first time trying to hold up a hysterical laughter.

Amusingly, I also found your blog while I was doing a random google search about plums! (Erik, to be more specific)... and now I'm hooked!

And yeah, Ufuk is probably one of the worst, I must say. I had also stumbled upon a girl called "Dilda" once.
