Too girly?

This past week, I went to the Yeşilköy pazar, one of my favorites. Even using LE's stroller as a battering ram through crowds and up and down the gutters that run down the middle of the aisles didn't ruin the experience. One stall was selling onesies, three for 10YTL (about $8). I couldn't resist this polka-dot one:

I recognize this isn't a style that's usual for a boy, but I found it somehow on the cutting-edge of baby boy fashion. Very brave and metro. And LE seemed to think it was just the thing for a sweaty, humid afternoon.

BE, however (who is, by the way, convinced I'm trying to make LE gay) says it's too girly.

What do you think?

I think he looks very cute. Plus, he's a baby. I don't think you need to worry about being "too girly."

Melissa, anonymous, I agree with you completely. This is a piece of baby clothing I love so much that its only possible fate is to have grape juice spilled down the front of it, or something like that.

The way I figure it, I might as well enjoy this brief time of being able to dress him however I want. It won't be long before he starts wanting to wear Power Rangers T-shirts or some such nonsense.

Though I have high hopes he never will want to...

He looks adorable.

BTW, it's my turn to comend you on your bravery now. There is no way I would tackle such a market with a toddler.

Seems perfectly fine to me. Tell BE that my mother sent me to kindergarten up to the age of 4 in a kilt; and I turned out to be a red-blooded father of two (you needn't tell him Oscar Wilde was too), who has played rugby, drinks beer and shags women. However, I have never done the oil wrestling thing; which probably makes me a bit suspect, that being obviously such a butch activity.

Siobhan, it wasn't brave so much as poorly thought-out. Mostly I was thinking 'Ooh! I haven't been to this market in ages!' then suddenly I was there in the crowds with the stroller, and no going back. Fortunately, LE has a tray on his stroller, so I just give him snacks and it's like a movie for him-- he just watches everything and munches slowly.

Gilbert, BE is less suspicious of kilts, perhaps because of Braveheart. He is probably very suspicious of Oscar Wilde, and would be even more so if he knew anything about him. But I'll pass your comment along anyway!

And few of us are really man enough for oil wrestling...

Hmm, it just occurred to me that in this running theme about kilts, girlie clothing, leather pants ('kIspet' is the proper name BTW), oil wrestling and such nobody mentioned how the expression "enseye tokat ..." ends. Perhaps like so?

Anyway, back on topic: Ay ay ay masallah masallah.

Oh I just remembered. I'd bookmarked this link as an example of something that'd look odd (um, queer?) to an American but is perfectly normal here.

Wonderful photo, Bulent (I'm on the American computer now, so I'm sorry I can't spell your name right)! For some reason I was expecting a photo of a little boy in one of those elementary school uniforms-- the blue smock (which looks much like a dress) with the round white collars...
